Robo Call Sent Home 11/15/2019
Good evening 8th grade Families of Fern Bacon Middle School. This is Mr. Coronado. This is a lengthy message about high schools so please take a minute to listen. I want to thank you for taking the time to attend our high school information session this past week. A flier was also sent home to help you plan for high school. It talked about the option for your child to attend your neighborhood high school or apply to a Specialty Program.
Open Enrollment for High School Specialty Programs opens this Monday, November 18th. All 8th graders our district will automatically be enrolled in their neighborhood high school if no action is taken on your part during this Open Enrollment window.
During the application window, students can apply for up to
2 Specialty Programs. The list of all available Specialty
Programs at our various high schools is available on
the district website. You can find a link to that list on
our school’s webpage as
well. Four of the Specialty Programs have specific criteria, and require students to sit for a program specific essay or test. Those programs are McClatchy’s HISP, Kennedy’s PACE, West Campus and Rosemont’s LEAD. Next week, Fern Bacon students will have the opportunity to sign up for these writing and / or test sessions during their ELA class by filling out an online registration for the desired session. We are having students register for these sessions so that we know the number of proctors and supplies needed to administer the test. These sessions will take place at our school:
McClatchy HISP: Tuesday, Dec. 3 after lunch from 12:30 to 2:30 pm
Kennedy PACE and Rosemont LEAD: Tuesday, Dec. 10 after lunch from 12:30 to 2:30 pm
West Campus: Wednesday, Dec. 11 after lunch from 12:30 to 2:30 pm
These dates can be found on our website and on Infinite Campus. If you have questions about the essay/assessment sessions, don’t hesitate to contact us or Mr. Avelar here at Fern Bacon. If you are interested in your child attending any of the Specialty Programs in SCUSD, you will need to fill out the Open Enrollment application. For questions about the Open Enrollment process, you can contact us or the District’s Enrollment Center at (916) 643-2400.
Thank you and have a good evening.
